The First 90 Minutes: From Blank Frame to First Clean Pass
Your first tufting session, broken down minute by minute—setup to first clean line.
00:00–00:15 — Frame & Tension
- Mount backing on gripper-strip frame.
- Tension sequence: top → bottom → left → right.
- Pinch test center: 1–2 cm rebound (tension test).
00:15–00:30 — Gun Setup & Threading
- Check voltage, install correct blade/needle (gun setup).
- Thread yarn through eyelets/guide; use a yarn stand if available.
- Set conservative pile height (cut: 10–12 mm; loop: 8–10 mm).
00:30–00:45 — Design Transfer
- Trace a simple shape (circle, square, or line) with marker.
- Skip complex designs for session #1; focus on mechanics.
00:45–01:15 — First Tufting Passes
- Hold gun perpendicular (90° angle).
- Start slow; steady arm motion, no yanking.
- Test a 3–5 cm line; check loop consistency.
- Re-tension if loops tilt or fall out.
01:15–01:30 — Review & Plan Next Session
- Flip backing: loops uniform? Adjust pile height if needed.
- Note what worked and what to tweak.
- Plan a slightly larger shape for session #2.
